A Worldwide Community of Spiritual Friends

KORINJI is a Buddhist monastery in Wisconsin, USA. Dedicated in 2013 as a Rinzai Zen training center, it serves as the headquarters temple of the international Korinji Rinzai Zen Community.

Korinji is also a non-sectarian temple for the practice of other Japanese Buddhist traditions, and a center for training in contemplative arts.

All are welcome to learn with us regardless of faith or background.

Our Practices

Korinji is a unique training center, carrying multiple lineages of profound

Buddhist teachings and serving as a center for the arts.

Our work: planting these dynamic practices of self-transformation deeply in

the West, and spreading them out to the world.

Rinzai Zen
Awakening to Your True Nature

Among the most direct of Buddhist practice paths, Rinzai Zen takes as its basis a direct, experiential enlightenment to intrinsic wisdom: the awakening called kensho, "seeing your true nature."

Korinji Goma

Mikkyo
Esoteric Buddhist Practice

Mikkyo, "secret teaching," refers to the Japanese streams of esoteric Buddhist practice (vajrayana or mantrayana) preserved today primarily in the Shingon and Tendai schools.

Korinji Shugendo

Shugendo
The Path of the Yamabushi

Shugendo is a 1500 year-old tradition combining esoteric Buddhist practice, Shinto awareness of the sacredness of nature, Daoist teachings, and outdoor asceticism such as mountain pilgrimage.
